James McKirdy

My dad is the one who started it all. He didn’t really begin running until after he and my mom had five kids, but he still found the time to train and finish 13 marathons and countless half marathons. My father boasts a personal best of sub-3:00 in a marathon — without official training or guidance, just a man who loved to get out there and do his very best. When I was growing up, he was a shining example that hard work and dedication will pay off.

As I developed as an athlete in high school, I had the pleasure of learning under Arleigh Duff, one of the greatest coaches in the nation. Because of his training and coaching philosophy, I learned that there’s more to the sport than winning. Success was a byproduct of hard work, and the relationships he helped foster among my teammates still stand today. He helped me develop so much that eventually I held eight school records, which still stand, ranging from the discus to the hurdles to the decathlon. I helped lead our cross country team to a 42-2 record over four years, as well as two state championships and a runner-up finish. I placed eighth in the nation in the high jump and finished fourth among high school students in the decathlon at the Junior National Championship.

For 13 years, I’ve helped hundreds of athletes find a healthy version themselves. Some already had the desire burning deep inside, and some found that spark as we progressed. Some developed into national elite runners. I’ve worked with individuals who never saw themselves as athletes, only to find out they had more spirit and fight than they ever could have imagined. It’s truly an honor to have helped so many find joy and happiness on their running journeys.

As a private coach I am in a very unique situation — one that I absolutely love. I have the opportunity to pour everything I have into your programming. Thanks to that dedication and attention to detail, my clients have enjoyed personal bests they never thought possible.
